How do we produce a grass-fed beef that tastes so great every time? We work with the renowned Dr. Allen Williams to produce the finest tasting grass-fed and grass-finished beef available.

The approach he has taken with our beef program involves over 20 years research to find the right cattle genetics for grass finishing. He has taken a very scientific approach in developing a grazing program that produces excellent finishing without using grain, and the proof is in the flavor.

Dr. Williams’ research has taught us that the best-tasting beef begins with the right cattle genetics, natural diet, and humane treatment. 

Only The Best Breeds 

We choose our cattle from the very best heritage stock – and our animals are always traceable back to their origin. Our Heritage Beef is made from heritage Aberdeen Angus cattle — the original angus. Less than 5% of American cattle qualify as true Aberdeen Angus, and Joyce Farms is the best beef program in the nation with these genetics. The original Angus breed was officially established with Aberdeen Angus Bull #1, Old Jock, born in 1842 in Scotland, the result of centuries-old breeding for hardiness and red meat quality. While modern commercial Angus cattle have a digestive system that has been adapted for a grain-finishing diet, true Angus are known to thrive on a grass-only diet. The result is beef the way beef is meant to taste.

A Natural Diet 

Properly raising grass-fed cattle parallels growing grapes for a fine wine. Their meat takes on distinct flavors based on the terrain, weather, soil and water where they graze. That’s why we make sure our cattle eat only a natural diet of 100% forage (natural grasses and vegetation), never corn or grain, so the taste is consistently pure and savory. We are set on changing people’s minds that grass-fed beef must taste “grass-fed”. 

Better Treatment, Better Cattle

Our beef farms, all located here in the US, routinely pass the strictest audits for humane handling. And we carefully follow the guidelines of Dr. Temple Grandin, nationally-recognized authority on humane animal treatment, to make sure our livestock has the TLC needed for ideal growth. In fact, our driving reason for feeding our cattle a purely grass diet is that it is, in itself, more humane. Grass is a cow’s natural diet. And studies show that eating grass makes their digestive process easier and more comfortable. The result? Fewer health risks.

Our cattle are not only healthier themselves, but their meat is healthier for you to eat. Compared to grain-fed beef, a serving of our grass-fed beef has:

  • 2-6 times the cell-boosting Omega-3 fatty acids
  • 3-5 times the Omega-7 which lower cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides
